Alberta Distance Learning
Summer 2012
What: 3 credit PhysEd 10
Who: CLTs
Cost: $141 ($84 will be reimbursed by the Alberta Distance Learning Centre upon successful completion)
Lone Prairie Camp is excited to once again be partnering with the Alberta Distance Learning Centre to offer 3 credit Physical Education 10 to interested CLTs. Successful completion of the course will require First Aid training (available during the LPC Staff Training week) and logging a total of 50 activity hours in 4 separate dimensions of the PE curriculum: alternative environments, gymnastics/flexibility development, games and individual activities. Each dimension also requires a short essay (6 paragraphs), a PowerPoint or a collage/poster.
Please note that although students are able to accumulate some hours during their first two CLT weeks, the bulk of their hours will likely be logged in subsequent weeks at a rate of roughly 20 hours/week. (For further details regarding course requirements, please refer to the Physical Education homepage on the ADLC website.)
There is an $84 deposit required from students. Upon successful completion of the course, this amount will be refunded to the student and their family. There is also a non-refundable $37 course materials fee. These fees are payable to ADLC upon registration. Lone Prairie Camp also charges a $20 administration fee (which can be paid as part of the CLT application) and a requires a signed copy of the 2012 ADLC Letter (5). Please note that this comes to a total of $57 non-refundable fees which in comparable to what other PE 10 summer school programs generally cost (eg. Edmonton’s Harry Ainlay High School charged $60 in 2011).
To enroll in this course, Alberta Distance Learning Centre must receive payment and a completed 2012 ADLC Registration Form (5) by June 1. Once registration is received, the lead teacher, Kristy Ruaben, will email out the required forms. Forms 1,2 and 5 need to be completed and submitted back to Kristy Ruaben by June 8. Forms 3 and 4 are specific to the activities that students will complete at camp and will be completed onsite and signed off by a camp representative. All course work is due to ADLC by Oct 10. (See our 2012 PE 10 Checklist (5) for a summary of key dates.)
If you have already registered for PhysEd this coming fall, you will need to clarify your situation with your High School since every school works a bit differently. The Lead Teacher for the distributed learning PhysEd 10 course at ADLC, Kristy Ruaben, would be happy to speak with school administrators if needed.
Alberta Distance Learning also offers other correspondence courses (such as CALM), so take a look at the ADLC website if you are interested in taking something other than PhysEd 10.
